CryWolf is an American hard rock band founded in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 2021 by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Sean Atkinson. The band's first release, “Never Give Up,” was a commissioned theme song for the Gundam-inspired content creator Mobile Suit Gutsy.

In 2023, Atkinson began performing with guitarist Brad Mitchell and drummer Kyle Perkon with CryWolf operating primarily as a cover band in Indianapolis. Inspired by Mitchell's fiery virtuosity, Atkinson renewed his studies of the masters: Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhodes, Paul Gilbert, Richie Kotzen. Putting in daily practice and forming new techniques to learn the art of shred.

In 2026, Atkinson turned his attention toward original material. Years of performing high-energy rock standards had reinforced his desire to make rock music with an unapologetic sense of fun. After many years of participating in original music projects defined by somberness, acoustic textures, and vulnerability, he sought something different: loudness, ambitious arrangements, theatricality, and a celebration of excess, but with heart. Neo-Hair Metal.

Drawing inspiration from Van Halen, Def Leppard, Dio, The Darkness, and The Cars, CryWolf reimagines the theatricality and color of classic hard rock through a post-grunge, post-punk perspective. Atkinson relaunched the band as an original recording project in 2026, writing, performing, and producing the new material himself.

CryWolf made its official streaming debut in September 2026 with “Rock,” a maximalist instrumental celebration of rock’s wonderful treasure chest of tropes. The single garnered international attention from independent music publications, radio stations, and playlists curators, earning praise for its musicianship, energetic arrangements, and polished production.

Roadie Metal praised the track's guitar-driven arrangements and expressive sound, calling it “an exceptional debut.” Metal Junkbox described the release as “an eclectic and maximalist hard rock instrumental” celebrating the genre with personality and a strong sense of identity. Soaplife Magazine highlighted the band's confidence, musical identity, and energetic guitar work, while Rock Culture recognized the single's eclectic approach and genuine love for hard rock.

The band's current live lineup features Atkinson on guitar and lead vocals, Brad Mitchell on lead guitar, Kyle Perkon on drums, and Addison Lavelle on bass. CryWolf's follow-up single, “Master of Tickets,” comes out October 30, 2026. Prepare to release the beast within.
